The National Down Syndrome Congress Convention was held
August 5 through 7, 2011 in San Antonio,Texas. Tony Piontek was the Down Syndrome Association
of Acadiana Self Advocate delegate to the Convention.
He had a very busy weekend as he presented a workshop
three times on Public Speaking to other self advocates and adults, addressing
one hundred people. He also campaigned and made a nomination speech to three
hundred delegates for election to the
Self Advocate spot on the National Down Syndrome Congress Board of Directors.
He was elected!
The National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) is a
not-for-profit organization founded in 1973. The NDSC is governred by a
twenty-two member Board of Directors composed of parents and family members of
individuals with Down syndrome, self-advocates and other individuals involved with people
with Down syndrome.
The purpose of the NDSC is to promote the interests of
people with Down syndrome and their families through advocacy, public
awareness, and information dissemination on all aspects of Down syndrome. The NDSC is finacially supported primarliy
through membership dues and individual contributions.
Tony will serve a three year term representing and being
a voice for the youth and adult members of the NDSC across the Nation. He is
honored to be serving in this way.
If you have ever met Tony, you will know that his favorite
part of the Convention was meeting and being with all the people he met and
visited with. There were three thousand attending and Tony now has about that
many new friends! |
